The Weight Of Sin

The weight of sin is an awful burden.

Genesis 4:13: And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

Psalms 38:4: For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

Psalms 40:12: For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.

Matthew 26:75: And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

Matthew 27:5: And he (Judas) cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

Hebrews 12:17: For ye know how that afterward, when he (Esau) would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

Unbelievers are never aware of the oppressive weight of sin until God removes it. Immediately after people have received Christ I often have heard them say things like this: I feel like a load has been lifted off my shoulders. I feel a hundred pounds lighter.

I understand that people who have walked on the moon weigh only a fraction up there of what they weigh on earth. Becoming saved is a little like walking on the moon. We become lighter when we have our sins washed away. What a wonderful weight-loss program!!!

Matthew 11:28-30: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Psalms 55:22: Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Sin is the heavy millstone that will drag unbelievers down into the Lake of Fire. And it slows the progress of believers here on earth.

Hebrews 12:1: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
